A service-area business travels to customers instead of receiving them at its address. Represent the real operation accurately, use appropriate address visibility, and list the areas you genuinely serve.
Describe how the business actually operates
A customer-facing shop, a mobile service, and a business doing both have different needs. Start by identifying whether customers visit your premises during stated hours and whether your team also travels to them.
For example, an HVAC contractor working at customer properties needs a different presentation from a showroom receiving visitors. The public information should help customers understand what to expect.
Use service areas as customer information
List genuine operating areas, not every place you would like to rank. Google supports up to 20 service areas and says the overall area generally should not extend beyond about two hours of driving from the base, though exceptions can apply.
Adding a city does not establish a staffed branch there. On your website, explain actual coverage and any practical limits such as appointment availability or different service types.
- Confirm where your team actually works.
- Use accurate cities, postal codes, or other supported areas.
- Review address visibility for your business type.
- Keep website coverage information consistent.
Keep location claims precise
Do not describe a service area as an office unless there is a real operation there. A useful regional service page should explain something specific, such as available services or how appointments work.
If your business expands, review whether it is adding coverage or opening another eligible location. These are different changes and should be handled accordingly.
What to take away
- Match the profile to your real operating model.
- List genuine service coverage.
- Keep customer expectations clear across the profile and website.
